Painting on Acetate

This week I wanted to try and use the paints on acetate (transparency). Using the Noah's Ark stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs, I stamped the image with Stazon on a piece of acetate cut to fit the front panel of a card. Then I flipped the acetate and used the paints to paint the back of the image. One thing to remember is that the first colors put down are the colors that show to the front. Even if it looks like the lines of the image have disappeared, don't worry, they'll show from the front. Once the image was completely painted and dried, I stamped the sentiment on the front in Stazon. Be sure to stamp or the front of the card, not the back, or the wording will be backwards. After the acetate was painted, I prepared the back panel. I used the texture duet technique, embossing the top and bottom of the panel with different folders. I tried to simulate clouds and water on my panel. I then highlighted the embossing with color. The acetate panel with the image was then attached to the embossed panel using small brads. The whole panel was adhered to the card base. Using CI paints on acetate creates a very shimmery card.

Wedding Shower Shimmer

Good morning!  Kendra, here with a simple little added shimmer to some wedding shower invites I recently created for a friend.

Here are the invites:

The shimmer:

I used "Fairy Dust" to add shimmer to the flowers and the background paper.  I used a paint brush to add the shimmer to the flowers and cotton balls to add the shimmer to the background paper.

I really think the shimmer added the perfect finished touch to the invites.

Most importantly, I was so happy she really liked them.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this holiday weekend!

lace me up...

Hello everyone!

Last week, I had so much fun playing with old fishnet tights, that I thought I would play around with that idea just a little more... This time using lace.

Here is what you need:
Lace
Gesso
Creative Inspirations Paint
*Die cuts or card stock
Paint brushes
Masking tape

*You can use this as a textured background by using a plain sheet of card behind the lace, or you can cover die cuts, chipboard shapes, or grunge board shapes.

Step 1: Using tape, stretch the lace tight over the die cuts or background card stock.

Step 2: Paint on Gesso. Make sure to get good coverage as this will act as the glue.

Step 3: Allow to air dry. (air drying is important because lace will melt and/burn with the heat from a heat gun.)

Step 4: Repeat step 2-3 until desired look is achieved. Make sure you apply Gesso off the edges of your pieces also to keep the lace from unraveling later.

Step 5: Using a small paint brush, paint over the lace pattern with desired color of Creative Inspirations Paint.

Step 6: Allow this to air dry as well.

Step 7: Trim off excess lace.

Just look at that great texture!

And here is the finished product!

Enjoy!

Plum Sparklers

Good morning! It's Holly posting today, and I've got a fun and different way to use the Creative Inspirations Paints to show you.

Can you figure out what I did here? Hee hee hee!!

I stamped the image with Versamark and embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I dipped my finger into a jar of Plum Creative Inspirations Paint, smeared it all over the cardstock, and then sprayed it with water. The paint thinned out and left this pale colored sheen all over. I crumpled up the cardstock to give it a little texture.

But wait, I'm not done yet. LOL! Then I dipped my finger into the same Plum paint and rubbed it in circles directly over the white sparklers. Isn't that a cool effect??

But wait, I'm still not done yet. Heheheee!!! The last thing I did was dip a paintbrush into the same Plum paint, and then I "thwacked" it against my finger so it would splatter all over the image. That's what the little dark dots are - paint splatters. :-) Here's a close-up so you can see the splatters and the gorgeous shimmer:

I hope you enjoyed this fun project. There are so many different ways to use these paints, and I hope you try these out for yourself. :-)

Tulip Love

Good morning everybody! Carole here today. I wanted to show that you can use Creative Inspirations Paints just as if you were colouring with Copic Markers or any other colouring medium. Yes, by that I mean shading. We're all familiar with the amazing shimmer CI Paints give your work, but don't let that fool you into thinking that's all they do.

For the leaves, I used Emerald, Evergreen and Green Olive and for the tulip itself, I used Tickled Pink and Tutu Pink...and then, because it wasn't the shade I wanted, I went back and added some Rose Quartz over the entire bud.
Hope you all have an awesome day!

Dear Friend

Hello. Thank you for joining us today. Beth Norman here with today's sparkle and shine. Today I painted my Stampin Up flower with CI paint. I love how it adds shine because it makes my card pop.

I created my flower by stamping it out four times. Each section was cut out, to create four flower petals. I then turned over the petals and painted them with Tombow markers, then distressed around all the edges. Next, I painted the flower petals with CI paints.

Some sparkle and shine for you. Enjoy your day!

fishnet frenzy...

When I was in high school, you would normally be able to find me hanging out around the Drama room, or the stage.  I still have all my costumes from the musicals, plays, and competitions. (which my niece loves to use as dress-ups now)

Not long ago, while digging around for some nylons, I came across a pair of fishnet tights that  had been part of one of those costumes. After discovering a hole in them, I was about to throw them out.  I then started thinking about the texture and how they might be altered for use in my studio.... (yes, I do think about that with a lot of things! LOL!)

Today I thought I would share what I did with them.

What you need:
Fishnet tights (yes, you can find these in the stores again. lol)
Embroidery Hoop
Gesso
Creative Inspirations Paint
Paint brush

Step 1: Cut a section of one of the legs off. Then make a vertical cut up the section to open it up into a square.  (sorry, forgot to take a photo)

Step 2: Stretch the fishnet tight onto an embroidery hoop.

Tip: Since the fishnet is very stretchy by nature, it helps to stretch the fishnet onto a hard flat surface using tape to hold down the edges. You can then slip the bottom of the hoop under it and slid the top of the hoop over it.

Step 3: Cover the fishnet with Gesso. The material is very absorbent, so I ended up doing 3 coats, allowing them to dry in between.

Step 4: Once your final layer of gesso is dry, you an paint on the Creative Inspirations paint for color and sparkle. For this one, I used Gold and Rustic Red

Once dry, you can remove it from the hoop.  this makes a fun texture for a background, or you can use it to cover chipboard shapes, or you can cut it into strips and make cute bows as I did here.

After all the gesso, the holes will remain stretched open after removing it from the hoop, so you get great texture!

Tip: While painting on the gesso and CI paint, place a piece of paper under the hoop.  You will end up with a great textured paper!

enjoy!

coming clean...

Hey everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful Friday and looking forward to a fabulous weekend!

Today I have a quick tip to share with you...

Have you ever noticed just how hard it is to get all the shimmer from the Creative Inspirations paint out of your paintbrush?  Now you all know I'm a girl who loves to sparkle everything up, but when the shimmer builds up in your paintbrush, the brush gets hard, and eventually will have to be replaced.  This is where my tip comes in...

Peg board... get one!!!

Ok, let me explain.  What I mean by "peg boards" are plastic boards with lots of little pegs on them. You sometimes find them at craft/art stores by the fine art brushes along with other brush cleaning stuff.  You can also find them in the kid's craft section with something called "Perler Beads".  Perler Beads are little plastic beads that you can arrange on the peg board, then iron, and the beads all fuse together to keep your design. (I spent hours playing with Perler Beads when I was growing up!)
Anyway, get one of these amazing little peg boards and put it in the bottom of your jar of water you use to clean your brushes. (or in your sink if that's how you roll).  When cleaning the Creative Inspirations Paint off of you brush, gently scrub the brush across the pegs under the water... It makes a world of difference!

Enjoy!

Butterfly Kisses/Altered Jar

This week at Creative Inspirations Paint our inspiration is butterflies. I love butterflies and many of the plants in my garden were chosen to draw them to our yard.

One of my favorite songs is "Butterfly Kisses" and I used that as my inspiration for this project.  I love making small decor items that I can tuck into little corners here and there. Recently, I have fallen in love with altered bottles. This one is an antique jar that has a metal wire to hold the lid on securely.

I used lots of lace, seam binding, an old necklace, a flower I made from some ivory and pink flower petals I had left over from a wedding project.
The butterflies are a Spellbinders die; love those butterflies! I very lightly distressed them with distress inks and then spritzed them with some glimmer mist I made with my Creative Inspirations Paint using 'Fairy Dust', one of my favs.  I use  (approx.) 20% water, 80% rubbing alcohol and a few drops paint.   I LOVE using these paints as glimmer mist; so super sparkly! You can see the sparkle on the flower. Awesome!

I printed the lyrics for the song, cut them out with some decorative scissors, inked them, and placed them in the jar, along with some lace, seam binding, and the word 'love' in several different languages.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful butterfly creations with us this week.  Hugs, Sarah

Spread Your Wings and Fly!

(You can click on the pics for a better view of the shimmer)

Good morning:) Sure hope your week has been FABULOUS!!!! My card for today was inspired by this week's Creative Inspirations Paint Challenge...it's all about Butterflies!! AND, I love anything butterfly themed:) I don't know why, but they always make me smile...like daisies and sunflowers:) Don't you just love those wonderful gifts from God that touch your heart and bring joy into your day?

Recently, I received some beautiful Prima butterflies from the Farfalla Collection. I have been wanting to play with these beauties for quite some time now, but wasn't sure exactly what kind of card I wanted to create. Once I saw this week's Creative Inspirations Challenge theme...I new exactly what I wanted to do...paint them up:)  I painted the butterfly's body with Ivory CI Paint and its wings with Fairy Dust CI Paint...can you see all the lovely shimmer it added? It also made the original colors *pop* a bit more:) I also used the Ivory CI Paint on the white blossoms. Man, I love these paints!!!!

Did you notice the doily? Can you believe it was originally a plain, white doily? Don't get me wrong...I love my white doilies, but every now and then...I wish they were a different color to better match my card. So, I painted on a coat of Beige CI Paint to help it match the colors I selected...and I must say, I really like how it turned out:) I also used this paint to "ink" around the edges of my patterned paper and card stock. I tell ya...these paints are a paper crafter's dream!!!

Here is the card's interior. I opted to keep it VERY simple. Can you see the sparkle? It was created with Maya Mists and CI Paints:)  I was hoping to make a variety of my own mists using these awesome paints, but didn't have the spritzers on-hand to do them:( Mental note: add empty spritzers to my "to buy" list. I know you are probably tired of hearing me say this, but I don't know what I did before being introduced to Creative Inspirations Paints!

Okay...have you fallen asleep at the keyboard from this mega long post? Sorry for blabbing away! I hope your Wednesday is filled with blessings and all things beautiful:) Thank you for stopping by!!!!

HAPPY HUGS!!!

Papillon

Since this week's challenge is Inspired by Butterflies, I thought I'd share a card I just finished to send to a stamping group friend. I used a collage stamp from Club Scrap and the level up technique from Technique Junkies. I stamped the image four times-- one for the base and one for each of the layers. The first layer (stripes) was torn and painted with rustic red and adhered to the collage. For the second layer I painted the butterfly with sunshine yellow and orange. I cut it out in its entirety and attached it to the red layer and base. The final layer was the sets of wings which were also painted and adhered to the corresponding wings. The whole image was framed using the torn frame technique. Everything was adhered to a yellow base card which I had trimmed the bottom using the Postal On the Edge Die. I used Viva Decor gold paint pen to add the pearls. The whole card has a very vintage look with the spice of shimmer. I hope to see lots of butterflies this week.

Fun Folded Card

Good morning!!

This week's challenge is Inspired By: Butterflies!

I have really enjoyed this new Cherry Lynn Butterfly die I purchase.

I had a lot of fun creating this card:
I recently had a challenge to create a center step card, I really like how this turned out!  It was one of those "happy dance" moments! :)

Side view:

A close-up of the butterfly:
I used Creative Inspiration Paints "Tutu Pink" to cover the entire butterfly.

A close-up of one of the side panels:
I used a "Butterfly Bookmark" stamp from SweetStamps.com.  I added some CI Paint "Spring Green" to the green butterflies and "Light Purple" to the purple butterflies.

Have a great week!!  We hope you'll join in our challenge this week, can't wait to see what you create!
