new look on ribbon...

Welcome to another installment of Saturday Inspiration! I'm so glad you stopped by!
Today I have a simple altering project to share.

A little background before we start... I love ribbon. Most of you probably know that by now... Anyway... I quickly learned that I could not afford, nor did I have the space to store all the hundreds of colors and styles of fabulously fun ribbons. My solution? I buy white ribbon. Yup, plain cheap white ribbon... the kind that is .50 a spool. I then alter it using anything from markers to powders, inks to stamps, and of course.... Paint!

So, today I thought I would share a fun way to alter plain ribbon to jazz it up a little.

You will need:
Ribbon to alter
Creative Inspirations Paint
Stamp (background, borders, letters, and images all work well)
makeup sponge

*when choosing your stamps remember the width of your ribbon. Large designs on small ribbon can get lost.*

Step 1: place your acrylic or rubber stamp on a flat surface. You want the stamp facing up.

Step 2: Using a makeup sponge, dab a thin layer of paint on the stamp.

Step 3: lightly lay your ribbon on the painted stamp

Step 4: Gently press the ribbon into the stamp with your fingers. *optional* Place an acrylic block over the ribbon and press firmly. This helps apply even pressure without allowing the ribbon to shift.
Step 5: Gently remove your stamped ribbon and allow to dry. (it doesn't take long to dry)
this is Fuchsia on a cream satin ribbon

Step 6: repeat as necessary to cover length of ribbon

*quick tip... a soft bristled toothbrush with a little water and dish soap is a great way to clean the paint off your stamps. The bristles get down in those little crevices that often get missed*

Always try this on a small piece of ribbon before attempting on your project so you know how the paint will react with your particular ribbon.

it works on textured ribbon...
this is Royal Purple on a white grosgrain

It even works on dark ribbon. (this is a much subtler effect, but the shimmer catches the light)
Silver Frost on black satin ribbon
It even works on colors =)
(Aqua Marine on yellow grosgrain)

Ok, so I really had to dig in my library of stamps to find words small enough for this. However, I found an old set of phrases by Stampendous that fits on a 1/4 inch ribbon. And I did this just to show all of you that you can stamp words on ribbon, and you can stamp on small ribbon. WHEW!

So make your ribbons your own!
Have a great weekend!

1980's inspired

I love working with chipboard for jewelry, because of the versatility. For this project I used Fuchsia & Aqua Marine. I painted the chipboard with the Fuchsia, and then inked the bottom edge black. I then wrapped wire around the pieces and used the Aqua Marine paint to fill in a wired off area. I added a little rhinestone to the bottom, and a stone near the hook at the top.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Halloween Tag

So I know Halloween is over and all, but I wanted to show you a quick tag I made, that hangs on a door. And of course....I used some of my paints on it=)

I accented the pumpkin with Mango. The "fright night" is a stamp, which instead of using ink o stamp, I simply painted my stamp with Onyx paint and stamped it.=) I also painted my little skeleton guy with Onyx, you can catch some of the shimmer in the top right corner.

Well I hope you all had a wonderful safe Halloween.
Catch ya next time. =)

Pumpkin Patch: Inspired by Pumpkins Challenge

Here in Iowa, there's been some frost on the pumpkins!  This morning it was 25 degrees and a little too chilly for my bones!  This kind of weather makes me long for warm apple cider or a cup of hot cocoa.  If you've been waking up to a chill in the air, what's your favorite way to warm up?  Warm drinks, a snuggly sweatshirt or maybe a fire crackling in the fireplace.
I removed a small plastic pumpkin from some garland and painted it with Creative Inspirations Copper Paint.  I added a dowel to the center and placed a Vintage image at the top.  So simple, yet festive.

Happy Crafting!    Jan

Flying Over Oz

The Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion are flying along the yellow brick road. Can you see Oz shimmering in the background? Creative Inspirations paints were used to color the image. The scarecrow never looked better in his blue jeans (sapphire). The lion's shimmering mane and fur (raw sienna) glimmer in the sun. Oz just glows green (sage). The paints are perfect for these images from Artistic Outpost.  I must confess that although there are many fun and creative techniques to do with these paints, I use them most often for just plain ol' coloring of my images, because there's nothing plain about the images when these paints are used. I love all of the colors and the end results are spectacular.

Fall is in the Air

Good morning, I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

I've also been inspired by the colder weather we have been getting around here.  Can you believe it's November already?

My goal was to make something fall related along with making a more manly card.  It's sometimes hard to make the guy's a card, yet to also use shimmer on them.

My creation:

I first stamped one of the leaf images on white cardstock and then kind of quickly used CI Paints Garnet, Mango, Mellow Yellow, Buttercup, Citrus, Canary, Sunshine to paint in the leaf. I wanted to act quickly so that I could blend the colors in together while they were still wet.

The end result:

Isn't that beautiful? I didn't completely glue down the leaf, I left some of the edges up to make it look 3-D.

I used CI Paint Mango around the edges of the outside cardstock to add some more shimmer to the card. The paints are great for adding this little added touch, just like when you do it with ink.

I also wanted to share one of the first Christmas cards I've made for this year, before you know it, it's going to be that time! (Just what you wanted to hear, right?!?!)

A close-up:
I used the paints as watercolors for this card.

Have a great day!

clay in my hands....

Hello everyone! I'm glad you've stopped by for a little creative inspiration!
Recently, I was inspired by a project done by our DT member Karen. On her project she used clay embellies... Well, I have looked at clay many times while wondering my local craft store, but I was slightly intimidated by it. My Play-Doh creations didn't always turn out so well. LOL!

I decided I needed to face my fear and try my hand at clay. And guess what... I'm not very good at it. *sigh* Oh well. I'm going to keep trying.

Now I'm sure you are all wondering at this point if I have a point... Well, I do. =)
I have a project too. And, because I am not a skilled clay artist, it is a simple project that even kids can do.

What you need:

Clay (I used a light weight air-dry polymer clay)
Stamps (ones with texture works the best)
Baby powder
Clay rolling pin (I got my clay tools cheap in the kid's clay section)
Clay knife
Nail file/sandpaper
Creative Inspirations paint (2-3) shades

Faux Antique Metal Embellishment
Step 1: condition a lump of clay by kneading it in your hands

Step 2: roll clay out to desired thickness using your clay rolling pin. You want all your clay to be a consistent thickness

Step 3: Dust your stamp with baby powder. I used a paint brush, but you could just sprinkle it on from the bottle.

Step 4: Shake off loose powder from stamp.

Step 5: press stamp firmly into clay

Step 6: carefully remove the stamp. Check to see if you have a good impression. If not, start back at step 1. (One thing I love about working with clay is it is forgiving.)

Step 7: When you are happy with your impression, cut the image out with your clay knife.
Some images might be easier to cut a shape around (like a circle, heart, or square) instead of trying to follow lines... If you want to make it into a charm, it is easy to cut a hole now.

Step 8: Follow the direction on your clay packaging to cure the clay. Mine was air-dry, so I left it over night. Other clays need to bake.

Step 9: When it is cured (and cooled), you can use a nail file or sandpaper to smooth all rough edges.

Step 10: Apply your first color of paint. This should be your medium shade. I am using Antique Silver.

Step 11: When you first layer is dry, dip your finger into the darkest color of CI paint you have chosen. You don't want too much on your finger at a time. Here I am using Coal.

Step 12: use you finger to rub the dark color into the crevices of your piece. (This is why textured stamps work the best). You can do this to the whole piece, or just antique portions depending on the look you want.

Step 13: Get a Fantastix slightly wet. I do this by spritzing water onto a non-stick craft sheet and rubbing the side of the Fantastix through the water.

Step 14: Lightly use the side of the damp Fantstix to gently wipe away random areas of the paint.

Step 15: using you fingers like before, gently rub a little of the lightest color over the areas you just wiped paint away. This will give you a few highlighted areas. I used Silver Frost for this.

Here is a close up of the corner of my finished frame. You can see some of all three colors in this shot.

And my finished project using this technique:
Paper: White cardstock, Watercolor paper
Ink: Archival, Distress
Stamps: Artful Inkables "A Bird's Song", Fancy Pants "In My Words"
CI paint: Antique Silver, Coal, Silver Frost, Denium
Other: ribbon, clay, rhinestones

Well, that's all from me today!
Thanks to all those who took the time to vote on our polls! The information is very helpful!
Have a fabulous weekend!

Starting to look like Fall

Hello again,  JennK here with you today.  I have noticed lately around my house that it is finally beginning to feel and look like fall. I really have been enjoying the nice cooler weather and the colors around are amazing!  So this  recent change has inspired my project today and my color choice.  It really reminds me of what I am seeing around me right now.  The colors I used are Beige, Green Olive and Buttercup.
I decided to stamp with the paints for this project. I painted them right onto my stamp,  then while the paint was still wet I applied clear embossing powder and heated for a raised effect.  It really brings out the already wonderfully sparkling color of the paint. I also applied the beige paint to the embossed card base.
A close up.
I hope you have enjoyed my project and are inspired to try out the paints on your next project.
