sniff, sniff...

Welcome to another Saturday tutorial!

Do you remember way back when the "scratch 'n' sniff" stickers were popular?  As a kid, I remember thinking it was the coolest thing when I got one of those on my homework paper. =)

Well, in honor of that (and the fact that I have a whole bunch of oils left over from a princess party), I bring you scented paints.

YUP...

What you need:
Creative Inspirations Paint
Small jar or paint container
Stirring stick (toothpick works)
Essential oil

*essential oils are often found at health food stores*

Step 1: Put desired amount of CI paint into your small jar.

Step 2: Add 1 drop of essential oil.  This stuff is really concentrated, so 1 drop goes a long way. Start there. You can add more if needed, but start there.

 Step 3: Stir.

Step 4: Use as you normally do. Here I've used it to stamp the frosting on the cupcake... Makes it smell fabulous!

The scent will fade over time, but for a card or tag, it is a wonderful little extra touch to make it special!

Enjoy!

Silver Fairy

It's Holly posting today, and for today's card, I used this beautiful Silver Fairy stamp from I Brake for Stamps. This is colored with Copic markers, and then I used some Creative Inspirations Paints over her hair and her wings. The die cut flourishes are painted with Silver Frost paint for a shimmery accent, and some tiny little jingle bells are dangling from the hand-dyed ribbon.

The wings are painted with Fairy Dust - a shimmery translucent paint. It's perfect for angels and fairies and butterflies. I've used the Silver Frost paint on the hair and the tiny jingle bell on the end of the wing. You can see the beautiful shimmer here:

I hope you have a wonderful, shimmery day! :-)

Halloween Hat - Kianel

Hello,
Kianel here with you today showing a Halloween hat i made lately for a TOMIC challenge and where i used 12 different colors of Creative Inspirations paints and some jewelled and metallic inspirations too. Did you know that you have 59 colors of Creative Inspirations paints? that is awesome but the number of possibilities just keeps growing when you mix them together or with your favourite inks!!! So much pleasure to use!!!!
so here i used the paints "sunshine" (boy's jewel) "onyx"(all black suits) "coal" (Boy's pick) "sage" (leaves) "pumpkin" "peach" "mango" (on the dresses and pumpkins) "amethyst" "plum" on the dresses) "winter frost" (to stamp the spiderwebs) "ivory" "autumn wheat" (on all flurishes and cat's wings, etc...). I also used the siam jewelled inspirations and the metallic inspirations "matt purple" and "red".
Here are some pictures but you can see more on my blog, love,  Kianel.

Winter  frost does give that magic shimmer that make outstanding spiderwebs.

Inspired Hello

Hello everyone! A quick an easy card from me...completely inspired by embossing! Embossing is one of my favourite things to do, both heat embossing and dry embossing. I went with an embossing folder and hit the raised part with Rose Quartz CIP. It's really subtle, because it's almost an exact match to my paper! The flower has Rose Quartz CIP painted along the back side (wouldn't want it to be plain, now, would we?) and Olive Green CIP along the edges of the petals, which does show up somewhat in the closeup. For the centre of my flower, I've used a Jeweled Inspirations (SS34). These are hot fix capable, but I don't yet have a hot fix wand, so I just used a hot glue gun, which worked brilliantly. I'll be sending this card along to the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, as part of the Hope You Can Cling To challenge.

Have a great week everyone! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with for the Inspired by...Embossing Challenge!

necessity is the mother of inspiration...

They say that necessity is the mother of all invention... well, I don't know if that's true or not, but it certainly does inspire!

I recently ordered a case of empty CD cases so I could organize my clear and cling stamps.  I went through and put all of my stamps (except the over large ones) into these cases, printed out little tiny labels for the spines, and arranged them all on a dvd rack. I must say, I was very pleased with my work.   They looked so neat and tidy, it was easy to have multiple sets out at a time, and a breeze to put back...

I soon discovered, that my beautifully organized stamps had one obvious problem... A lot of my stamps I know by brand, and while all the labels have brand and set name on them, and they are organized alphabetically by brand, they also all look the same at a quick glance.

My initial thought was to put colored dots on the spines of each case with different colors representing different brands... I realized that the dots would more than likely just fall off.  I ran through several different ideas all with the same general outcome of it just not working.

I realize that what I really wanted is a whole bunch of those fancy-dancy pretty tapes that are so popular right now.

It was then that the bolt of inspiration hit.... MASKING TAPE!

What you'll need

Masking Tape
Creative Inspirations Paint
Non-stick craft sheet
Background stamps (optional)
StazOn ink (optional)
Acetate (or overhead transparency)

Step 1: Stick strips of masking tape to a clean non-stick craft sheet. (if you have any glitter, powders, or anything else from a past project on your craft sheet, the tape will pick it up, so make sure it's clean)

Step 2: Paint your tape strips with your favorite CI colors. (Some of the lighter colors needed 2 coats to get a good finished look)

allow to dry.

Step 3: (optional) Use StazOn ink to stamp patterns onto your tape.

Step 4: Remove tape from craft sheet and put on an acetate sheet for easy storage.

Now it's ready to use!

After making this for my stamp organization, I did a little research... Masking tape comes in multiple widths from 1/18 inches to 3 inches wide! And, although not all masking tape is acid free, some is!  SO... if you are wanting to use these as decorative tape in your scrapbook, just make sure you get the acid free kind.

Of course, if you are just using it for cards... any masking tape will do!

Enjoy!

This week we are being inspired by buttons.  I am starting to get together some ideas for our craft show and this is one of the projects I'm considering.  It's a hot chocolate pouch.  I'm not sure I care for the design.  I was going for a partially melted snowman.  He's been painted with CI Paint 'Blue Ice' and his nose with 'Sunshine'.  And of course, he has 2 button eyes.

The ribbon is tucked down inside and looped around the hot chocolate to hold it in place.  When you pull the ribbon up it pulls the packet out.
Hope you have an awesome day!

Dry Goods

This week the CI Paints challenge is buttons. One thing my card shows is that grunge and shimmer can work together. To begin my card I cut a piece of a sheet of My Mind's Eye designer paper which included a dry goods ad. I cut the grunge paper dress form, spool and buttons from a Tim Holtz die. I used distress stains to color the diecuts.  The spool  was wrapped with gold thread and the thread was also used in the buttons. The lace circle on the dress form is also from My Mind's Eye. I highlighted the lace with bright yellow CI paint and the buttons with rustic red, turquoise, and sage paints. The
paint added a wonderful shimmer to these items. The glittery cross stitches around the ad were perfect to go with the shimmer of the paint and the gold thread.

Fall Birthday

Good morning bloggers!  Can you believe it is October already?!?! I was inspired to create a fall card recently and thought I would share it with you.
What a fun card to make, this was my first time creating a criss-cross card.

A close-up of the watering can, that I used Creative Inspirations Paint "Silver Frost" to add shimmer to.

On the front of the card I used some of the new Peridot Metallic Inspirations!  I just love these embellishments!

Have a wonderful day!
