God is Our Refuge

I have a beautiful, antique carved Victorian cross and thought it would make a fantastic centerpiece for a card, so I made a mold using Amazing Mold Putty and used the Delight™ air dry modeling compound to cast it. After it was dry, I painted the cross with Creative Inspirations Paint in Sea Foam, which really went great with my papers. I think this card is one of those that would be lovely framed.

Shimmery Doily Backgrounds

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend! It's Holly posting today and I've got some shimmery doily background cards to share with you.

I started by stamping a doily from I Brake for Stamps with Versamark and then I embossed them with Deliquesce Fine Clear embossing powder. Then I scooped out some shimmery Blush paint and mixed it with a little water to thin it out a bit. Using a wet paintbrush, I picked up some paint and swiped it all over the cardstock and then let it dry. :-)

Here's a close-up of the gorgeous shimmer:

I had so much fun with the pink card, I couldn't stop!!! I did three more cards in different colors. The colors of Creative Inspirations Paint that I used are:

Blush, Sky Blue, Lavender, and Sage

You can see the shimmer here:

When I opened the Deliquesque Fine Clear embossing powder, I was awestruck at how white it is. Some other brands of "clear" embossing powder are a dull eggshell white or sometimes even an ivory color. This powder is so fine and it wasn't clumpy at all (like some other brands have been). It melts beautifully when hit with a heat gun. I absolutely love the embossing powders that I've tried from Creative Inspirations Paint!! I need a huge vat of every single color!!

Here's hoping you have a wonderful week!

CI Paint: Blush, Sky Blue, Lavender, Sage
Embossing Powder: Deliquesque Fine Clear
Stamps: doily and sentiment (I Brake for Stamps)
Ink: Versamark, London Fog Memento
CS: White
Other: Labels 18 die (Spellbinders), May Arts ribbon
TJ Technique: morphed Walnut Ink Resist

paper my way...

Hello all my wonderfully crafty and creative friends!  Are you ready for some fun?

If you follow my personal blog, you'll know I shared this sneak peek on my personal blog the other day....

Today we're going to make a fabulous homemade paper...

(Now, don't go getting scared off before you even finish reading... I promise it isn't hard and won't require a bunch of fancy screens or presses!!!)

This paper is not like regular paper... it is very textured and very durable and can hold it's shape!  It's fun to use as embellishments (like what we're going to do today), accents, or even backgrounds!

So NOW are you ready for some fun???

You are going to want to have all your supplies for this first part on hand and ready, so go grab....

White tissue paper
Mod Podge (I prefer the matte finish, but glossy does work)
Non-stick craft sheet
Soft paint brush

Step 1: Tear up your tissue paper.  No need for straight lines or perfect shapes and sizes.... Give in to your inner child and just rip!

(I usually tear of several sheets of tissue paper. It is much better to have too much than not enough. You can always store the extra for another time. Trying to tear tissue paper with sticky fingers just doesn't end well. LOL!)

Step 2: Use the paint brush to paint a thin layer of Mod Podge onto your non-stick craft sheet.

Step 3: Put some tissue paper down onto the Mod Podge, and brush on more Mod Podge.

Step 4: Continue layering the tissue paper and Mod Podge. Remember to overlap your pieces.
*I know at this point it is not looking so good right now, but stick with me!*

A few tips...
1. the more wrinkly you let your tissue paper be, the more texture you'll ultimately have.
2. don't skimp on the Mod Podge! You'll just end up tearing the paper instead of glueing it down.
3. as you build your layers, you can hold the craft sheet up to the light to check for any thin spots.

Step 5: Once you have a bunch of layers built up, it will look even worse than it did in the last step... Yeah, I know it looks like a gross mess right now, but trust me, it gets better!!!

Now set it aside to dry.

Make sure to wash out your paint brush well, other wise, your brush will be ruined... a little dish soap will help get the Mod Podge out.

*This does take a fair amount of time to dry. It's one of those things you might want to start at night and finish it in the morning.*

Now to make this mess look fabulous!  For this part, you'll need...
Your dry tissue paper creation
Creative Inspirations Paint
Any other colorants you may want to use*

*I like to use spray inks for the basis of my color, then use CI paint to highlight, but you can paint the whole thing if you want. Up to you. =)

Step 6: When your paper is completely dry, it will easily peel off of your non-stick craft sheet. (that is why it is so important to work on one!!!)

Step 7: Lay down your base color. You can use paint, or inks... I like to use spray inks because it is quick, and the color pools inside the texture.

Step 8: When your base layer of color is dry, use your finger to rub on some Creative Inspirations Paint to highlight the texture.

Now it's lookin' fabulous, huh!  I LOVE the unique texture and feel of this paper!  And every sheet you make comes out completely unique.

So, let's make something with it!

Step 1: Rub down your paper with an anti-static duster. This will ensure that everything is dry and will keep the loose powder from sticking where you don't want it.

Step 2: Using a clear embossing in, stamp your image.  (keep in mind that the paper is VERY textured, so your stamped image will not come out crisp and perfect. Simple stamps work well!)

Step 3: Cover the stamped image with Black Deliquesce powder.   Remember to shake off the extra onto a piece of paper or coffee filter and return it to the jar... waste not, want not! =)

 Step 4: Heat emboss

Step 5: Cut out the image. You will notice that not only is it flexible, it holds it's shape... see how the wings are curved off the page? They aren't being supported by anything, they just hold their shape! Isn't that awesome????

Have fun with your new paper making skills... we'd love to see what you make with it!

Enjoy!

Hello there,
Kianel here with you to present a booklet card i have made using some fabulous products from Creative Inspirations paints.

This butterfly die is covered with the embossing powder called "platinum"
Here you can see the details of the key dies that are inked, stamped and finally embossed with the embossing powder "clear" from Creative Inspirations paints.
To colour this beautiful stamp, i used to mix my paints with distress and adirondack inks. The mushrrom is coloured using "autumn wheat". On the wings i used the "winter frost" and on the clothes i used the "rose quartz" paints.

Tag for my Mom

Hi All! Carla here today... a bit later than usual! But suspence is a good thing right?!

I wanted to share a tag I made for my Mom who recently celebrated her 60th birthday! Where does the time go? Crazy! She, like me, loves shiny pretty things, so I think this is right up "our" alleys.

This started out as a regular old shipping tag. I painted the whole thing with Ivory CI Paint and added the lace and seam binding to it. Then I stamped my little tag, edged it with Beige and colored in the roses with Emerald, Rose Quartz and Burgundy paints. I also used the Beige on some metal letters I had after first giving them a quick coat of white alcohol ink as a base.

Here is a close up so you can see the detail on the flowers, they are kind of hard to see on the photo above.

Last step was adding a few small embellishments and voila! A pretty tag to brighten any birthday package!

Shimmer and Glitz

Yes, it's true that there's no place like home; but it's also true that there's nothing like a bit of shimmer and glitz to spice up a card. My image and sentiment are from Artistic Outpost. The shoes were stamped in red and then heat embossed using Deliquesce Clear embossing powder. Wow, the ruby slippers never sparkled as much. The background paper is from the Graphics45 Oz collection. I added fairy dust paint to the poppies and now they are really popping. I love spicing up background paper with the shimmery CI paints. It's easy and quick, but it really adds a wow factor.

Winter Snowman

Good morning!  Kendra, here with a winter card to share with you!

I wasn't sure what to create for today.  So I started thinking and decided to create a winter card, as I have been wanting to get a start on Christmas cards.  Then I decided I was going to use a little bit of all CI Products!!  I never used them all together before, so this was a fun challenge.

My card:
I just love this adorable snowman!!
I added some Jeweled Inspirations in Siam in each corner to give the card some bling!!

I used CI Paint Fairy Dust on the snowman's hat and scarf to give them a little shimmer! On the two ornaments I added Resplendence Angel Dust Glitter to give them a little glimmer!

On this piece of paper I used a polka dot stamp and embossed with Deliquesce Super Sparkle Red to give it some fun texture and sparkle!  This EP is awesome!!

I hope you like my card!  As always, thanks for stopping by!

Remember to join in our challenges for your chance at winning some paints of your own!  This week's challenge is Polka Dots!

Have a wonderful day!

Guest Designer Nancy

We have another Guest Designer to share with you today!

Meet......

Nancy

How long have you been crafting?
I began crafting in grade school where I made jewelry, sold it and bought more beads and sequins.  Besides paper crafts and jewelry,  I’ve made and taught classes in rug making, inkle weaving, macrame.  About 14 years ago I began scrapbooking and making cards.  I’ve been on 4 paper craft design teams and am presently on the design team with Stampers Quest (stampersquest.com).

What is your “must-have” paper crafting tool?
The paper crafting tool I couldn’t be without is my Cuttlebug.  I use the embossing folders and die cuts on many of my cards.

What do you like about Creative Inspirations Paint?
I like the vibrant colors that Creative Inspiration has, and the sheerness and shimmering results I get.  I can use it like it is which I did on the red dress lass or over the top of something I have colored with pens, inks, etc. and needs something a little extra.

Favorite CI Paint Color?
The color I use the most is the Ivory.  It can go on top of any other color and adds additional glitz.

Here's a few cards Nancy has created using CI Paints!
“Red Dress Lass”
For her I used the following paints: garnet, rose quartz, evergreen, ivory, beige, and sunshine.

The deer are done with Beige paint.

Ivory was used on her wings.

"Rose Fairy"
Garnet and Ivory paint were used for this card.

Have a great day!  We hope you are enjoying the creations from our Guest Designers!
